Solving
MediaCat CD Installation Issues for Updated CD
If the MediaCat
CD does not update/install, then listed below are a few steps that should
solve the problem.
Step 1:
Completely remove the MediaCat software from the computer system.
- From the
Start menu go to "Settings"
- Select "Control
Panel"
- Select "Add/Remove
Programs"
- Remove "MediaCat"
(This may take a few minutes. Some systems may restart the computer
to complete the process.)
Step 2:
Insert the CD into the drive (usually, but not always, the D: drive on
most computers). If the software does not automatically start, then Reopen
MediaCat from the D: drive.
Step 3:
Go to Settings (house icon):
- Select "Catalogue
Settings"
- Select "Path
D:\"
- Select "Copy
Catalog"
- A small window
will appear
- Select the
folder on the C: drive that is designated for MediaCat.
Step 4:
Click "OK" and installation will begin.

TROUBLESHOOTING
SETTING THE CORRECT DRIVE PATH
A common complaint we are receiving after loading the MediaCat CD-ROM
software is that no catalog appears on the screen when you open the
program. The default drive for the CD-ROM catalog is the computer's
"D" drive. If the CD drive being used on the computer is labeled
other than "D" or the catalog has been copied to a hard drive,
you must set a new file path to the CD-ROM drive or hard disk where
the catalog resides. Instructions for setting the correct file path
are attached. Please feel free to send these instructions to anyone
experiencing this problem.
KNOWN ISSUES WITH INTERNET EXPLORER
Mandatory requirement is Internet Explorer version 5.0 or higher.
If, at one time or another, the computer has been updated to a higher
version of Internet Explorer, the plugin that is necessary to read .pdf-files
in Internet Explorer will have been automatically deleted from the plugin-folder.
The plugin file "NPPDF32.DLL" (without the quotation marks)
must exist in the plugins folder that can be found in the following
file path examples:
Using NT4.0, that folder is: C:\....\Microsoft\Internet\Plugins\
Using Win2K or WINXP that folder is c:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Plugins
The Internet Explorer and Adobe software must be installed on the PC
in the following order:
- First install Internet Explorer 5.0 (or a higher version number).
- Then install Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 or Adobe Acrobat 4.0 (or higher
version).
Important:
Each installation of an Internet Explorer upgrade (e.g. fom IE5 to
IE6) leads to the same problem of automatically deleting the needed
plugin. > Therefore Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader must always be
reinstalled after an Internet Explorer upgrade!
MediaCat Software User Manual
USER HELP FILES/INSTRUCTIONS
The entire help file/user instructions can also be found and accessed
on the CD at the following file path:
My Computer\D:\Help_ENG (assuming that "D" is the CD-ROM
drive)
A copy of the HELP file can be downloaded through
the "MediaCat Help File" link below. Please follow this procedure
to save:
- Right Clicking on the link "MediaCat Help File"
- From the menu that appears, choose "Save Target As"
- Navigate to a location on your computer where you can later locate
the "Help_ENG.chm" file
- Double-click the "Help_ENG.chm" file to open
- If you have the MediaCat program open and operating you can click
on the question mark "? located at the top menu bar which will
take you to the same help file.
If this information does not resolve a problem, please contact your TM
with as much of the following information as possible:
- What is the version of your Windows operating system?
- Version number of your Internet Explorer*? (to find the version number,
open your Internet Explorer browser as though you were going to visit
a page on the Internet. Click "About Internet Explorer" in
the Help menu of the program's main navigation toolbar.)
- Version of Adobe Acrobat (to find the version number, click "About"
in the Help menu in the program's main navigation toolbar.)
- Type and speed of processor
- Also, any screen shots from the computer that would show the condition
may be helpful.
