CDC•BME Support for Regional FFA Continues in 2009

This spring (2009), Crader Distributing and Blue Mountain Equipment continued their support of the top FFA members throughout the territory with another $24,000 in scholarships. We featured some of this year's recipients in the Fall issue of the POST Powerline, and here on the website we'd like to share some of their comments.

Names and some personal information have been withheld here for reasons of Internet privacy.

"I am a graduate of West Holt High School in Atkinson, NE, and a winner of the (member) 2007 State Nursery & Landscape team. I wanted to say thank you. The money you gave me paid for my books & more this semester in college. Without the scholarship, I'm not sure how I would of paid for that stuff.

But I also wanted to say thank you for your support. I did not have an easy life in high school, so I threw myself into FFA. FFA taught me so much. It is where I got my leadership experience from. I LOVED competing at nationals, too! I want you to know that you all supporting the FFA organization in high schools is so huge! You do more than you know. It kept me on the right track & I am using the skills I learned everyday here in college. And I'm sure I will for the rest of my life. I am so greatful of your support & contributions, as is my former FFA Chapter. Thank you again, for everything!"

"Thank you very much for sponsoring the STIHL Nursery Landscape Scholarship. I greatly appreciate you funding this scholarship which will help me pay for my degree in Agricultural Economics and also help me get to my goal of being an agricultural real estate agent. Once again, thank you so much for sponsoring this greatly appreciated scholarship.'

I would like to thank you and everyone at STIHL/Blue Mountain Equipment for the $1000 scholarship from the Texas FFA Nursery Landscape CDE. This scholarship will help me with my college costs at Texas State University where I plan to major in Agri-Business.
Thanks so much for your support.

Thank you for providing the funding for the 2009 Nursery Landscape CDE scholarships. Your contribution will help me further my agricultural education at Oklahoma State University.

Dear Scholarship Sponsor,

Throughout my years in high school I was an active member of the FFA program. My Freshman year I strived for excellence as I competed in Ag Sales. The hard work paid off as our team was named state champions. However, FFA rules state that once you are on a winning team you cannot compete in that event again. The following year I debated what team to join. I decided to join a team that had little interest at my school. I joined the Nursery Landscape team. The first year was not very successful as our team did not advance to state. However, I did not give up. The following year the team grew to be a four member girl’s team. We were successful and made a record as the first Orange Grove FFA Nursery Landscape team to advance to state. We learned quite a bit at that competition and came back the next year, my senior year.

I went to state this year knowing what to expect. I just had to remain focused as the competition went on for hours. Going to awards later that day, I did not think I had done that well. I knew that I had done my best and that is all that was important to me. When they announced my name as 4th high point individual I was so surprised and excited.

Later they announced that the top 4 individuals would be a $1000 scholarship and would be walking the stage at state convention.

Before this day I was told that as a senior I would not be able to attend state convention unless I received a scholarship. You can imagine my excitement when I heard that I would be attending state convention after all.

In the fall I will be attending Texas A & M Kingsville majoring in communications with the hope of pursuing a career in marketing and public relations. I also plan to be an active member of collegiate FFA. I would like to thank you so much for helping me to further my education and allowing me to attend my favorite FFA event, state convention.
